Recently, a human bird flu case was found in Hong Kong, and thousands of chickens had been culled. An expert from Provincial Center for Disease Controlling said, the virus of bird flu is normally found in birds but can jump to people who do not have immunity to it with relatively low probability, and it is also preventable.
Generally, the latent period of human bird flu is 1 to 3 days. The early symptoms of human bird flu are similar to general pandemic influenza, for example, a high fever over 39℃, and may along with other symptoms, like running nose, nasal obstruction, cough, sore throat, headache, muscle ache and general malaise. Some patients may have digestive tract symptoms, such as nausea, bellyache, diarrhea, etc. In severe cases, the clinical symptoms are similar to pneumonia with abnormal uncontrolled high fever.
The effective precautions to human bird flu include try to avoid any unnecessary touch with poultry and birds, especially those died of illnesses. Pay close attention to dietary hygiene, do not eat any uncooked meats or eggs, and build up and stick to good individual health habits as well.
