Under the leadership of CPC Central Committee and with the relentless efforts of all Chinese people, since the beginning of March, the prevention and control of COVID-19 in China has seen good results and the centrally administered SOEs are taking the lead in resuming work and production. However, the pandemic is now spreading globally, affecting tremendously the commercial activities and production of oversea centrally administered SOEs and organizations.
To support oversea organizations and projects in restoring operation, Sinopharm followed the SASAC’s work plan and took immediate actions. Mr. Liu Jingzhen, Chairman of Sinopharm Group, chaired a meeting at Sinopharm International, the undertaker of the mission of international aid and import and export in fighting COVID-19. He pointed out that Sinopharm should adhere to the CPC Central Committee’s decision and assignment to stabilize employment, finance, foreign trade, foreign investment, domestic investment and expectations, and prioritize the resuming operation of centrally administered SOEs worldwide by supplying the materials and drugs needed, contributing Sinopharm power in stabilizing the global supply chain.
As early as March 11th, Sinopharm had already started collaboration with China Nonferrous Metal Mining Group (CNMC) and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC). On Mar.16th, upon receiving the requirements from the SASAC, a special taskforce was formed immediately and started the work in an all-round way. The taskforce sent out well-welcomed letters to all centrally administered SOEs expressing the willingness to assist them in this regard and got feedback right away. Ms. Shi Shengyi, Vice President of Sinopharm and head of the taskforce, chaired meetings and instructed in the work multiple times.
As of the report date, Sinopharm had received the needs for materials from more than 50 centrally administered SOEs covering their oversea offices in over 30 countries. The materials they need included tens of millions pieces of protective gowns, over 100 thousand boxes of detection kits, thousands boxes of both Chinese and western drugs and tens of thousands of ventilators.
Now that the COVID-19 had become a global pandemic, Sinopharm’s taskforce also undertakes the procurement to aid the international community required by the national ministries. To ensure this work, the taskforce has been working around the clock and overcome all kinds of difficulties encountered. As of March 23rd, the 200,000 masks for Nam Kwong Group were shipped; purchasing contracts with the Ministry of Health of other countries, such as Djibouti whose needs were forwarded to Sinopharm by China Merchants Group, were signed; purchasing details are were under discussion with other 17 centrally administered SOEs.
To ensure the orderly resuming work and production, prevention of the COVID-10 pandemic of the “went-out” projects and organizations of centrally administered SOEs and promote global public health, as the healthcare platform among the centrally administered SOEs, Sinopharm will continue to assist this work against all odds, and build strong connections with brother companies, laying solid foundation for an even more promising future development of Chinese enterprises abroad.
