100% Pure Fruit Juice Is Good For Children Health
Baby younger than six months shouldn’t drink 100% pure fruit juice as it has bad impact on the development of heart.
Over years, numerous studies have shown that sweet drinks lead to childhood obesity. However, it is impossible to make children not to drink sweet drinks. What should the parents do then? Recently, an article published on the web site of WEBMD pointed out, children who drinking 100% pure fruit juice, in fact, are healthier than others who drink sweet drinks. The result is from a new investigation on the American children's drinking habits and its conclusions have been published in the version June 2009 of "Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine".
Dr. Teresa Nicholas, one of participates in the study, found that children from 2 years old to 11 years old, who drink 100% pure fruit juice, can not only get more nutrition but also get less risk of getting obesity than others who don’t drink pure fruit juice after she analyzed the data of the surveys on U.S. National Health and Nutrition from 1999 to 2002. For example, children who drink 100% pure fruit juice will take more carbohydrates, vitamin C, vitamin B6, folic acid, potassium and magnesium, but they can intake more fruits, less fat and sugar.
Peggy Laou, an American registered dietitian engaged in the research on childhood obesity also believes that parents need to restrict the child to drink beverages containing soda or sugar, instead of limiting the drink of pure fruit juices, because they meet the child's nutrition demand. However, fruit juice also has its own shortcomings, as they will soon be eliminated from the body, so children who drinking pure fruit juice are easily hungry. Therefore, Ms. Laou suggested that let children eat some fruits when they drink 100% pure fruit juice, so as to make up for the inadequacy of fruit juice.
In addition, the American Academy of Pediatrics also recommends that children from 1 year old to 6 years old should drink 100% pure fruit juice 4 to 6 ounces (about 110 ml to 170 ml), children from 7 years old to 18 years old drink 8 to 12 ounces (about 230 ml -340 ml). American Heart Association says that it is not good to let too young baby drink pure fruit juice, at least not younger than 6 months old, or it may affect the development of their hearts.
They also remind parents not to let the children drink a large glass of fruit juice immediately after a meal, otherwise, this will make their stomach bursting, but also it will lead to unequal nutritional meal for child. Parents should also carefully check the label of fruit juice so as to ensure their children drink 100% pure fruit juice.
Of course, children sometimes don’t prefer to 100% pure fruit juice at first as the pure fruit juice tastes not the same delicious as other sweet drink, but experts believe that as long as parents provide pure fruit juice for them continually and let them try many times, and they will eventually like it.
